Why Malibu is different

Glass, glare and a city that regulates outdoor light.

Malibu houses are built around walls of glass facing the water, and the light through them changes hour by hour: glare off the ocean in the afternoon, heat on the south and west faces, and a night view that interior lighting can flatten. Lutron motorized shades on a schedule and on the same keypads as the lights handle the day, and scenes that bring the interior down as the sun sets keep the view.

The City of Malibu also regulates outdoor lighting through its dark sky rules, which govern how exterior and landscape lighting is shielded, aimed and controlled, and County Line plans exterior lighting and its controls with those rules in mind. Exterior fixtures and enclosures on the coast are chosen for salt air. Permits are City of Malibu permits.

Malibu lighting questions

Who installs Lutron shades in Malibu?

County Line Electric designs and installs Lutron motorized shades and lighting control in Malibu homes, from its office in Newbury Park. The system is selected after reviewing the home's wiring, rooms and project requirements.

Does Malibu regulate outdoor lighting?

Yes. The City of Malibu's Dark Sky Ordinance, Malibu Municipal Code Chapter 17.41, governs how outdoor lighting is shielded, aimed and switched off at night. County Line Electric plans exterior and landscape lighting controls on Malibu projects with those rules in mind.

Do motorized shades work with the lighting system?

Compatible Lutron lighting and shading products can be coordinated through scenes, schedules and controls. County Line Electric checks product and processor compatibility before proposing a system.
