Home automation in Pacific Palisades.

A Palisades house being rebuilt can have its whole system planned before the drywall goes up. County Line Electric pre-wires the backbone for lighting control, shades, network, cameras, audio and video at rough-in, installs the Lutron side, and works with the integrator on the rest.

Why the Palisades is different

A rebuilt house can be wired for its system from the start.

Automation in a finished house is fitted around the walls; automation in a Palisades rebuild is designed into them. Structured network cabling to every room and to the access points, conduit to the cameras and the gate, speaker and display runs, shade power, Lutron keypad wiring and a rack location with power and cooling all go in during rough-in, and the cost of a pull string or a spare conduit at that stage is small compared with opening a finished wall later.

The houses going back up after the January 2025 fire are also being built with backup power, EV charging and all-electric equipment, and the automation design ties into those: which circuits the generator or battery carries, where the network and cameras stay powered during an outage, and how the system reports what the house is doing. Permits run through the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety, and the utility is LADWP.

The process

From the plans to a working system.

  1. 01

    Plan review

The architect's and integrator's drawings, read before rough-in, with conflicts flagged.

  2. 02

    Backbone

Network, camera, audio and video, shade and keypad pathways, and the rack location, installed with the branch circuits.

  3. 03

    Power

Dedicated circuits for the rack and equipment, and the backed-up circuits chosen for outages.

  4. 04

    Lutron

Lighting control and shades installed and programmed by County Line.

  5. 05

    Integration

The integrator's audio, video and control equipment landed on a backbone that is ready for it.

Palisades automation questions

When should home automation be planned on a Palisades rebuild?

Home automation on a Palisades rebuild should be planned before rough-in, so the network, camera, audio, video, shade and keypad wiring goes in with the branch circuits. County Line Electric pre-wires that backbone and coordinates with the integrator.

Does County Line Electric work with my integrator?

Yes. County Line Electric runs the electrical and low-voltage pathways, installs and programs the Lutron lighting and shades, and leaves the integrator a backbone ready for the audio, video and control equipment.
