What is different here

A small city with its own building department and a big fire map.

Agoura Hills is its own city in Los Angeles County, with its own Building and Safety office issuing electrical permits, and Southern California Edison as the utility. Most of the city is a ring of neighborhoods around the 101: Old Agoura with its horse properties and long driveways, Morrison Ranch and Hillrise on the north side, the streets around Lake Lindero, and the hillside lots climbing toward the Santa Monica Mountains on the south. A large share of that hillside is inside the state's Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, and the Woolsey Fire of November 2018 burned through the southern and western edges of the city on its way to Malibu.

That shapes the electrical work. The canyons south of the freeway and the Old Agoura lots are on circuits Edison shuts off in wind events, many of the homes date from the 1970s and 1980s with services that were never sized for a heat pump and two chargers, and the rebuilt houses on the Woolsey lots are being wired to a code that did not exist when the originals went up. County Line installs standby generators, upgrades services, and wires new and rebuilt houses here as the electrical contractor.

Agoura Hills from the hillside

Old Agoura

Horse property is a different electrical problem.

An equestrian lot in Old Agoura can carry a barn, an arena with lighting, a well or booster pump, an electric gate at the end of a long drive and a house, sometimes on one service sized decades ago. When Edison shuts the circuit off, the water troughs and the gate are as important as the refrigerator. The generator is sized from a load calculation that includes the outbuildings, the transfer switch is placed so the barn and the pump are on the protected side, and the conduit to the arena and the barn is checked before anything new is added to it.

On those properties the design often grows into a Residential Microgrid: a Generac unit for the long days, a battery for the quiet hours, and a panel that sheds the arena lights before it ever sheds the pump.

Rebuilds and remodels

The Woolsey lots and the 1980s houses.

The homes rebuilt after the Woolsey Fire are new construction in every electrical sense: a new service sized for today's loads, a panel with room for the chargers and the heat pump, and the generator or battery planned into the drawings rather than added afterward. County Line works as the electrical subcontractor on that kind of build, rough-in to final, and reads the plans before the walk.

In the original neighborhoods the common project is the service itself. A 100 or 150 amp panel from 1980 will not carry an EV charger, induction cooking and a heat pump at once, and the honest first step is often a service upgrade with Edison, before anything else is added. County Line runs the load calculation and says so.
