What is different here

A city, an unincorporated town and the Coastal Zone between them.

Carpinteria is an incorporated city in Santa Barbara County, so a permit for an address inside it comes from the City of Carpinteria. Summerland and the foothills above both towns are unincorporated, and permits there come from Santa Barbara County Planning and Development, the same department that permits Montecito. The shoreline of both is inside the California Coastal Zone, which can bring coastal review to exterior work such as a generator pad or site lighting. Southern California Edison serves both.

The ranches and estates in the foothills above Carpinteria and Summerland sit inside the state's fire hazard zones, on circuits Edison can de-energize in wind events. Many of those properties have wells, irrigation pumps and gates, and some have no natural gas main.

Custom homes

Estate electrical, on the coast and in the foothills.

New houses and major remodels in Summerland and the Carpinteria foothills carry the same scope as their Montecito neighbors: an Edison service sized for an all-electric house, the backup designed in, Lutron lighting control and motorized shades, and a low-voltage backbone that reaches the guest house, the gate and the equipment yard. County Line works as the electrical subcontractor for builders and owner-builders on that scope, with Santa Barbara County or City of Carpinteria inspections.

On the beach side, salt air is the design condition. Exterior equipment, fixtures and enclosures are chosen and placed for it, and the generator pad and panel locations are planned with the Coastal Zone review in mind. The Montecito and Santa Barbara new construction page covers the estate scope in detail.

Backup power

Standby generators for Carpinteria and Summerland properties.

Standby generators in Carpinteria and Summerland are sized from the loads each property chooses to back up, which on the foothill ranches often includes well and irrigation pumps with high starting current. County Line installs Generac units on natural gas where there is a main and on propane where there is not, with an automatic transfer switch and twice-yearly service. The Montecito generator page covers the process for the Santa Barbara County side.

County Line Electric plans exterior equipment locations with that review in mind.

Yes. County Line Electric serves Carpinteria and Summerland with custom home electrical, standby generators, Lutron lighting and home automation, working from its office in Newbury Park with the same crews that work in Montecito and Santa Barbara.
