Ventura and Camarillo
Generator installation in Ventura and Camarillo.
The hillside neighborhoods of Ventura and Camarillo are where the Thomas and Mountain fires burned and where Edison shuts off power in high wind. County Line Electric installs Generac standby generators in both cities, with the loads, fuel, placement and permit reviewed for each property.
Why here
Fire history on the hillsides, and a permit line that moves.
The Thomas Fire of December 2017 destroyed hundreds of homes in the hills above Ventura, and the Mountain Fire of November 2024 burned through Camarillo Heights and the hills toward Somis and Moorpark. Both cities are served by Southern California Edison, which can de-energize the circuits that run through those hillsides during Public Safety Power Shutoffs, while the flat parts of both cities see shutoffs far less often.
Permits follow city limits. Addresses inside the City of Ventura or the City of Camarillo are permitted by the city; unincorporated parcels are permitted by Ventura County, and the county and the City of Camarillo run separate Mountain Fire rebuild processes. On a house being rebuilt after either fire, the generator belongs in the new electrical service from the start; on an existing house the assessment starts at the panel and the gas meter.

- 01
Site visit and load assessment
The panel, the equipment you want to keep running and its starting loads, the fuel supply and possible locations. The findings define the scope and the estimate.
- 02
Fuel
Natural gas where the house has a service, with the gas work coordinated; propane where it does not, with the tank and line coordinated with your supplier.
- 03
Location
A pad that meets Generac's clearances and local rules, reachable for service, with any HOA review prepared where it applies.
- 04
Permit
A City of Ventura or City of Camarillo permit inside either city, or a Ventura County permit on unincorporated parcels. The address decides which applies.
- 05
Set, connect, start
Pad, unit, automatic transfer switch at the panel, connections, a simulated outage with you watching, then the inspection.
- 06
Service
Twice a year, so the unit is checked before and after the windy season.

Ventura generator questions
Who issues the permit for a generator in Camarillo Heights?
It depends on the address. Ventura County issues it for a parcel in unincorporated county territory. Addresses inside the City of Camarillo are permitted by the city, and addresses inside the City of Ventura by Ventura. County Line Electric pulls whichever permit applies.
Does County Line Electric install generators on Mountain Fire rebuilds?
Yes. County Line Electric installs Generac standby generators as part of the new electrical service on homes rebuilt after the November 2024 Mountain Fire, with the pad, gas or propane supply and transfer switch planned in the design. The Camarillo rebuild page covers the full scope.
Will I need electrical panel work?
That depends on the existing equipment, the transfer switch arrangement and the backup loads. County Line Electric assesses any panel or service work as part of the proposed installation rather than assuming every home needs an upgrade.
